The Sentinel of Stone

The Sentinel of Stone

The province of Mendoza, Argentina is home to the highest mountain in the Americas and, outside of Asia, the highest mountain in the world; Aconcagua (meaning “Sentinel of Stone”).

Aconcagua stands at 6,962 m (22,841 ft) and sits within the longest mountain range in the world; the Andes. At its summit the atmospheric pressure is just 40% of that at sea-level. This, however, does not deter thousands of climbers attempting to reach it each and every year. The majority of those are foreigners (primarily from the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom) and of those that attempt the climb, it is estimated that 60% are successful.

The average climb (and descent) takes 21 days to accomplish due to the frequent stops that are required to acclimatize to the altitude.

This mighty mountain is widely regarded as one of the most visually striking in the world and at just over 100 kilometers from the Valle de Uco Golf, Wine & Country site, forms a stunning backdrop for the development.
